SD Card Driver Update

The Windows CE 4.2 SD card driver has a limitation that doesn't let you use all of the available space on SD cards of size 2GB or larger. Cards of this size use a slightly non-standard setting to allow capacities of greater than 1GB to be created. We've introduced support for these cards at the request of our users. Devices now supported include:

  • Sandisk Ultra II 2GB SD card
  • Transcend 4GB SD card

This update applies to all mPower models running KeySoft version 6.2 and upwards. This package will be incorporated into the next release of KeySoft. For current users, HumanWare has released a driver installation package. There are two parts to the package:

  1. A file called installer.exe that allows new driver files to be installed.
  2. The packaged driver (in this case called "SD driver update 1.exe").

The first part of the package is the installer file which only needs to be run once - so if you install further drivers, you don't have to run installer.exe again. (Don't worry if you accidentally run it again, it won't cause any problems.)

The second part contains the driver. When you run SD driver update 1.exe, the files are copied to your Flash Disk so you won't lose them if you perform a 4-5-6 or service reset, or let the unit run out of battery power.

BrailleNote mPower USB Mass Storage Device Driver

The USB Mass Storage Device driver has been updated so that the BrailleNote mPower now recognises many more devices, and recognises them faster. Devices now supported include:

  • Sony Storage Media USB Device 512MB
  • Imation iCON USB Device 512MB
  • SanDisk Titanium Cruzer 512MB
  • Apple Video iPod 60GB
  • and many more.

This update applies to all BrailleNote mPower models running KeySoft Version 6.2 and upwards.

This package will be incorporated into Keysoft 8.0. To allow these USB devices to be used on existing units, HumanWare has released a driver installation package. There are two parts to the package:

  1. A file called installer.exe that allows new driver files to be installed.
  2. The packaged driver (in this case called "USB mass storage.exe").

The first part of the package is the installer file which only needs to be run once - so if you install further drivers, you don't have to run installer.exe again. (Don't worry if you accidentally run it again, it won't cause any problems.)

The second part contains the driver. When you run USB mass storage.exe, the files are copied to your Flash Disk so you won't lose them if you perform a 4-5-6 or service reset, or let the unit run out of battery power.

Socket Rugged Ethernet Card Driver

The original Socket Low-Power Ethernet CF card is no longer freely available on the market, but a replacement card is available - the Socket Rugged 10/100 Ethernet CF card. However, to use this card with KeySoft Version 7.2 or earlier, you must first install the necessary driver software, which HumanWare has released as a separate software package.

Please read the instructions below carefully before proceeding.

The package contains two files:

  1. Installer.exe, which allows new driver files for various cards to be installed.
  2. Rugged.exe, which contains the drivers for this particular card.

The first part will be incorporated in KeySoft at the earliest opportunity, but until then you will need to run this file before installing drivers for the very first time. You only need to run this file once - so if you install further sets of drivers for different cards, you don't have to run installer.exe again. (Don't worry if you accidentally run it again, it won't cause any problems.)

The second part contains the driver files for this specific card. When you run rugged.exe, the files are copied to your Flash Disk so you won't lose them if you perform a 4-5-6 or service reset, or let the unit run out of battery power.

After these files are copied to the Flash Disk, they will be used after each reset - so you will need to reset after the installation for the card to start working.

Important: Do not insert the card until instructed to do so. The unit must be always be switched off before the card is inserted.
